Speech Development Therapy

Speech development therapy provides support for children over the age of two whose speech and language development is progressing more slowly than expected.
An early assessment does not necessarily indicate a serious problem. Instead, it provides an opportunity for the child to receive the appropriate support at the right time.

What Is Considered Delayed Speech and Language Development?

From a professional perspective, speech and language delay may be suspected if a child around the age of two does not yet use approximately 50 different words or word beginnings, or does not begin combining words into simple phrases. If this developmental milestone has not yet been reached, a speech therapy assessment may be recommended to identify possible causes of delayed speech development.

How Does Speech Therapy Work?

Speech development therapy is always based on the individual needs of each child.
During the first consultation, a detailed assessment is carried out to gain an accurate understanding of the child’s current developmental level.
Based on this assessment, a personalised development plan is created, adapted to the child’s abilities and individual pace of development.

Myofunctional Therapy (for Children and Adults)

he development of a properly aligned bite and healthy dentition depends on more than orthodontic treatment alone. The function of the muscles around the mouth, the resting position of the tongue, swallowing patterns, and breathing habits all influence the development of the teeth and jaws. Incorrect muscle function may contribute to dental irregularities over time and can also affect the success of orthodontic treatment. During the first consultation, which lasts approximately 60 minutes, a detailed assessment is performed.

We review previous treatments, daily habits, and any existing concerns. We also examine tongue movement, swallowing patterns, breathing, and the function of the muscles around the mouth. Following the assessment, personalised myofunctional therapy begins. The aim of the therapy is to establish proper muscle balance, develop correct swallowing patterns, and support healthy oral functions.

Articulation Therapy

Articulation disorders involve inaccurate or altered pronunciation of speech sounds. A child may replace certain sounds with others, pronounce sounds incorrectly, or omit specific sounds from speech. These difficulties can affect speech clarity and confident communication. Articulation therapy is generally recommended for children over the age of five. The goal of therapy is to develop correct speech sound production, and achieve clear, easily understandable speech.

During sessions, playful exercises are used to develop speech perception, and improve the movement and coordination of the speech organs.
Once correct sounds are established, they are gradually practised and incorporated into spontaneous speech, allowing them to become natural parts of everyday communication. If your child is experiencing speech difficulties, feel free to contact Diamond DentArt Dental Clinic in Siófok.
